Opportunities and Obstacles for HIV Vaccines – EAVI2020 at the 9th IAS Conference on HIV Science, 23-26 July 2017

EAVI2020’s partner institutions presented the latest research on HIV vaccines at the 9th IAS Conference on HIV Science.
The Conference
The IAS Conference on HIV Science is the largest open scientific conference on HIV/AIDS. This year was its 9th edition and took place on 23-26 July 2017 in Paris.
IAS 2017 featured the latest HIV science, including basic, clinical and prevention research. It brought together a broad cross-section of HIV professionals from around the world with a focus on implementation – moving scientific advances into practice.
EAVI2020 at IAS Conference
On 23 July, the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise and partners organised the satellite session, “Future Perfect: Opportunities and Obstacles for HIV Vaccines”, which was co-chaired by EAVI2020 lead scientists Gabriella Scarlatti (Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise) and Robin Shattock (Imperial College).
This session included a presentation by Rogier Sanders (Academisch Medisch Centrum) on Novel envelope proteins to induce neutralizing antibodies.

Robin Shattock also gave a presentation on Translational Vaccinology: Experimental medicine clinical trials of promising new HIV candidates, which focused on the critical role of vaccine development in the response to HIV.
